Kitty Xiao offers piano, theory and composition tuition in Melbourne. Kitty teaches students ranging from beginner to advance levels and teaches from children through to adults. Kitty offers an insightful approach for the student with a combination of practical study, theory, musicianship and contextual background. This approach provides the student with a sophisticated understanding and appreciation of the music.

A classically trained pianist, Kitty received her Australian Music Examinations Board Licentiate Diploma in 2008 and Bachelor of Music in 2010. Kitty completed her Master of Music at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London in 2012 and her Master of Teaching (Secondary) at The University of Melbourne in 2015. 

Kitty’s teaching method draws from her many years of training as a classical pianist, composer and experience performing in an array of music styles. Most recently, Kitty is exploring teaching pedagogy  influenced by renowned pianist and teacher Penelope Roskell as well as methodologies explored in Barry Green’s book ‘The Inner Game of Music’ which explores the psychology of teaching and learning music. 

Kitty teaches a broad range of musical styles, reflecting her own versatility as a pianist.  Kitty arranges music to provide the appropriate challenge for the student, personally matching the piece to the student's ability and persona in ensuring they will always be playing the music they enjoy.
